1871-78 1d vermilion-red, litho printing by Nissen and Parker, perf 11½, complete pane of 12 (3x4) with full margins, the upper row exceptionally PERF COMPOUND OF 11½ and 15 (at top), fresh o.g. (stamps unmounted). Diagonal bend through second and third rows, and a couple of marginal thins (not affecting stamps), otherwise a remarkable and very rare item with only three such panes recorded. Ex Messenger (RL 14 Dec 1982, lot 544) with RPS cert (1989) as SG 22 prior to the current listing. (cat £4500++) [N.B. Although long recognised, this variety only achieved 'catalogue' status in 2016.
