1864 (DE 9) outer wrapper from Spanish Town to Liverpool, franked by 1860-70 1s purple-brown showing variety '$' for 'S' in 'SHILLING' (R2/2, upper left pane), tied by light 'A76' numeral with matching despatch cds at lower left. Backstamped at Kingston (DE 9) and Liverpool (JA 1), with small part London red transit cds at foot. The adhesive with a blunt corner perf (and minor rubbing as often), still a neat and attractive cover. Surely one of the finest examples of this very scarce variety known on cover, with the added interest of a New Year's Day arrival. - P212012939
