| 1928 (FE 19) cover front from South Georgia to Tonsberg, Norway, neatly addressed in violet ink and correctly franked at UPU foreign rate by 1928 2½d on 2d purple-brown 'South Georgia provisional', left marginal, tied by type SG2 cds. Light tone spotting still a fine and very rare commercial usage. Ex 'Stanley' (Spink 4 Mar 1998, lot 590) with Heijtz cert (2021). Heijtz 1, cat £10,000 [Despite ostensibly being issued for this purpose, commercial covers bearing the South Georgia provisional are of great rarity with only four such usages noted by Heijtz.] |
