ZANZIBAR 1896 SG24D/25D Mint 2½ on 1a plum surcharge from first setting

1896 (11 May) "2¬Ω" on 1a plum (type 1 opt on India, with small second "z"), black surcharge, horizontal pair from the first setting (fraction "¬Ω" only 5mm tall), showing types 4 (left stamp) and 5 se-tenant, fresh large part o.g. A very rare and desirable item, being one of only two pairs we can recall offering in 40 years, as the survival rate of even mint singles from the first setting was very low, the vast majority of the printing having been used up postally (to pay the standard 2¬Ωa rate on overseas letters). - P245000072
