ZANZIBAR 1895 SG23/24 Mint 2½ on 1a plum overprint on India surcharge types 4 and 3 se-tenant

1896 (11 May) "2Ω" on 1a plum, type 1 opt on India, vertical pair from the first printing (fraction "Ω" only 5mm tall) showing surcharge types 4 and 3 SE-TENANT in black, o.g. The upper stamp with horizontal crease, still very fine fresh appearance. A very rare and desirable item, being only the second such pair we can recall offering in 40 years, as the survival rate of even mint singles from the first setting was very low, the vast majority of the printing having been used up postally (to pay the standard 2Ωa rate on overseas letters).
