1918 (DE 30) stampless cover from Bay Roberts to St John's, with very fine despatch cds and 'postage paid' pencil endorsement, overstruck by machine arrival cancel of 'DEC 31' with three-line 'POSTAGE PAID / G P O / ST. JOHN'S, NEWF'L'D.' h/s in violet at left. A fine example of this provisional, in use mainly between 24 and 31 December 1918 as a result of war-time stamp shortages. Walsh PP3. - P267000689
