1916 2¬Ωd pair of imperforate essays in shades of red and violet, the first handstamped on white wove in three operations (frame, cypher, and value tablet), the second undenominated. Minor creasing otherwise a fine and important pair. [These essays were apparently prepared in advance of the military occupation and subsequently discovered (in September 1917) by Paymaster C.F. Phillips in the British Legation, Athens.]
