1911 1d Artwork Essay by Bertram Mackennal. Large pen and ink essay on thick white card (144 x 160mm) incorporating Britannia and a galleon in the design and the central vignette with a rough pencil sketch of a three quarter face similar to the Downey head. This design was rejected as it did not include a "Lion Couchant" as directed. A unique and striking item, discovered in Mackennal's estate after his death. Ex. Alain de Cadenet.
