GB 1864 SG43,87 Cover

1864 Overseas mail to India. Fine cover to Calcutta with a pre-printed blue 'Via Marseilles' scroll at left, prepaid at the 10d per ½oz rate by a 9d Straw Pl.2 and 1d Rose-red Pl.95 tied by London 'SW/22' duplexes for OC.3.1864. Bombay and Calcutta arrival datestamps on reverse for OC.31+NO.7.1864 respectively. When the rate to India was increased to 10d in 1863, the 10d Embossed stamp had been officially withdrawn since 1855. Although a small reserve stock of 2012 sheets was re-issued it was quickly exhausted and no 10d stamps were available until 1867. Cat. £1000. - P212012053
