Very attractive cover from Southampton to London prepaid at the 7d rate (1d postage plus 6d registration) by a 1d rose-red (SG40) and 6d lilac (SG68), both neatly tied Southampton '723' numerals. Superb strike of the scarce Southampton Crown/Registered handstamp in blue at upper left with a matching blue Southampton cds below for DE.18.1857, London REGISTERED/G.P.O oval datestamp for the following day in red at lower right.
