South Shetlands. 1930 (MR 18) registered cover to England, franked by Falkland Is 1929 Whale and Penguin ½d, 1d, and 6d, tied by two very fine strikes of type B2 'SOUTH SHETLANDS' cds with further strike below, and pencil 'R South Georgia' registration mark (type SG4B) at upper left. Backstamped at South Georgia (11 MY) and Brighton (17 JU). A fine and most unusual item, the hand drawn registration label recorded in 1930 and 1937 only during a temporary shortage of printed labels. [N.B. Registration facilities were not available in the South Shetlands. Letters and parcels requiring registration were forwarded to Port Stanley or South Georgia (whichever was first port of call) where registration could take place.] - P267000759
