Cyprus SG 8b pl.201 Used 1881 ½d on 1d red type 4a surcharge
£550.00
| 1881 (1 June) 'HALF-PENNY' on 1d red, plate 201, type 4a (17mm) surcharge, lettered 'LL', lightly cancelled by large part '969' numeral of Nicosia. Typical centring still a fine example of this very scarce stamp. Ex Charilaos Dikaios (Spink 9 Nov 2011, lot 1104 part) where it was offered as the more common type 4 surcharge. (cat £850) [N.B. The most noticeable difference between the type 4 and type 4a surcharges is the space between the 'F' and 'HALF' and the 'P' of 'PENNY'. This measures 1mm on type 4, but 2mm on type 4a.] |
