1853 Isle of Wight. Very fine entire prepaid by a four margin 1d red-brown Pl.160 addressed to London and tied by a Ryde '666' numeral. The reverse showing a very fine strike of the scarce Ryde third type skeleton handstamp (IW102, Mackay 196) for OC.3.1853 in the usual red-brown ink with a London arrival cds for the following day. The usual double-arc datestamp was undergoing repair in October 1853 which in turn led to the brief use of this third type skeleton handstamp. A choice example of this scarce skeleton. - P201007729
